Earlier this month we launched our on-line moderated forums, the Auxiliary Communities of Interest. Just as our Flotilla, Division, and District events bring us together to share best practices and discuss challenges, these new forums allow us to extend our communities across the Nation, 24 hours a day, 365 days per year to become more effective Auxiliarists. Between now and NACON in August we will pilot the Auxiliary Communities of Interest program by launching six communities representing program and focus areas across a broad cross-section of our activities.
There is a code of conduct that lays out the expectations of members on the Communities of Interest. Please review this code of conduct at (http://wow.uscgaux.info/content.php?unit=IT-GROUP&category=communities)
before you post.
To access the Communities of Interest use your Member Zone login at the following location: http://cgaux.org/coi/login.php

The Auxiliary Internet Resource System (AIRS) was established to host
Auxiliary unit websites free of charge on Auxiliary servers. Since 2012
interest in AIRS sites have greatly diminished with the availability of WOW.
For those units still on an AIRS site and using Frontpage or other tools
that depend on the Frontpage extensions as their site update tool, our ISP
provider has informed us that support for Frontpage will be automatically
removed in about 2 weeks. Sites published through Frontpage extensions
will continue to function. However, FrontPage users must publish new
files through SFTP. Please open a Help Desk Ticket if you need help.

Due to a recent U.S. Coast Guard security directive, all users of the Auxiliary's information system of record, AUXDATA, and the AUXDATA Order Management system, AOM, have been tasked to perform a password reset when entering either system after 1400 on Wednesday, 3 SEP 2014.
This is in addition to any recent password resets the user may have performed. This password reset affects the Training environments for these applications, as well.
Passwords for the AUXLMS (which hosts the online Mandated Training) will be similarly affected in the near future.
Technical issues not resolved via the Information Services (IS) staff officers should be addressed to the Auxiliary's National Help Desk.
Comments and concerns are communicated via the chain of leadership and management, beginning with your Flotilla Commander.

In 2012, the C Directorate brought online the AuxBridge, a system that automatically updated AuxDirectory from AuxData four times a day, replacing the old once per week manual updates. Last November, software problems between the C.G. Operational Support Center (OSC) and AuxDirectory took down the AuxBridge, bringing AuxDirectory updates back to the old periodic manual process.
The C Directorate and the OSC staff have now updated the AuxBridge system to bring it back online. AuxDirectory is now once again being updated four times a day via an automatic feed from AuxData.
Our obligation to the Coast Guard and to the membership requires that the Auxiliary’s IT systems maintain up-to-date security patches and current versions of the software on which our services run. Recently we have had some service interruptions, broken links, or missing resources on CGAux.org and other Auxiliary IT systems. These recent interruptions are a result of implementing a number of these security updates.
We are currently working with the Coast Guard Operations Systems Center (OSC) to resolve an issue with the connection between AuxData and the AuxDirectory. AuxData updates to AuxDirectory normally take place four times per day. Currently that automatic process is not running due to a problem at OSC. Because of this, many updates to AuxData over the past two weeks have not been passed to AuxDirectory.
OSC and the C-Directorate are working to restore full functionality. In the interim we will make manual updates periodically. As of Saturday evening 07 December, the first manual update has taken place, bringing AuxDirectory up to date.

Recent updates to the Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers for Windows PCs have resulted in compatibility issues with some Auxiliary web based services (some functions no longer work, displays format differently, pages hang, etc). In addition, recent versions of Firefox can no longer fill in Auxiliary forms. User action is often required to resolve these problems.

The BOATUS Foundation's popular Courseline website (http://www.boatus.com/Courseline/) now automatically includes all Auxiliary Public Education courses that are listed in our National Public Education Database as searchable courses in their own Courseline database. This means that any flotilla that has submitted an Online Form 7023 Notice of Intent to Teach via their units WOW website, or using the 7023 Webform's national dashboard at http://dev02.cgaux.org/wowII/PE_signin.php, can expect to see their courses appear as well in Courseline.
The National Public Education Calendar and ZipCode Course Finder now permits PE officers to include links to other websites in their PE Course entries. The links show up in the Online PE Flyer that gets generated when a site visitor selects "PE Flyer" while viewing Auxiliary course listings in the National Public Education Zip Code Course Finder, on on any unit's WOW Website, or legacy unit Websites whose webmasters have incorporated the "PE Webkit".
IS officers and other credentialed users of AuxData should note that access will now be locked after 90 days of inactivity and deleted after 365 days of inactivity. Passwords still need to be changed every 90 days.
AuxDirectory/AuxOfficer "Member Zone" accounts are not affected. AuxInfo, the flexible report generator for AuxData that requires no credentials for use, is also not affected.

Here is another training opportunity for CS staff officers and elected officers at all levels - the AUX-04 C-School has added a class for interested candidates, June 07-10 in San Diego, California.
Here's an opportunity to attend a National "C" school and help your flotilla and/or division create a presence on the world wide web. The AUX-04 "C" school still has openings for interested candidates in the May 17-20 class located at Duluth, Minnesota.
User Services and Support Director Dale Crow announced today the immediate availability of the Auxiliary's first video "walkthrough" guide, covering the use of the Online 7029 Webform. The video shows members, in seven minutes, how to open and complete the 7029 form online, and tips for navigating the Webforms site. The video guide is the product of the recently-formed User Guides Division, headed by DVC Karen Rochon.
In a technical memorandum released this date to all CS officers nationwide and to their unit commanders, the National IT department has declared "end of life" for unit websites built with the prototype pushbutton website platform "WOW". Any unit website not converted to the succesor WOW II platform by 31 March 2012 will be stood down by national, and their content discarded. The announcement comes as WOW II has proven wildly popular, with 321 units standing up WOW II sites since its national rollout in August, 2011 at NACON. Of these, 147 have already petitioned for, and received national approval for listing as a units "official" website.
